Raising ambition and accelerating access to green cooling in Africa
Wednesday, 20 March 2019, 13:30-14:25, Committee Hall 1
Organized in cooperation with GIZ and Green Cooling Initiative
Flyer available here
Axel Michaelowa will speak about raising ambition and harnessing synergies in the implementation of the Paris Agreement and Kigali Amendment through markets.
While access to cooling is essential for everyday life and sustainable development, the cooling sector is a key contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions. Under the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol, a phase-down schedule for refrigerants has been agreed that can avoid global warming of up to 0.5°C until 2100. This side event discusses ways to incentivize the transformation of the cooling sectors in African countries through harnessing synergies between Paris Agreement and the Kigali Amendment. In this context, the crediting of mitigation actions under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement will play an important role.
