In this new study for the German Environment Agency (dena) our team examined the concept of "climate neutrality”, conflicting uses of “carbon-neutrality” or “net-zero emissions” and outline the many far-reaching implications

“Climate neutrality” and related terms are often used to describe different long-term climate policy objectives at both national, regional or local level. Pledges for climate neutrality bring important challenges and opportunities to the fore, which require societal engagement toward early, inclusive and decisive planning and action. On the backdrop of rapidly growing attention and salience of climate neutrality ambitions, our the team offers conceptual clarity on the far-reaching implications for state and non-state actors.
